Food Drive

Help Tri-Cities residents who are in financial need by dropping off food donations and cash for the SHARE Family and Community Services food bank. The food drive takes place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Cassandra Cake Co. in Port Coquitlam (2331 Marpole Ave.). The agency is calling for fresh fruit and vegetables, as well as non-perishable goods such as rice, canned tomato paste, canned diced tomatoes, canned fruit, canned fish or meat and canned meals.

Online Auction

Place a bid in the seventh annual Amanda Todd Legacy Society auction, which raises funds for the Port Coquitlam non-profit group to build awareness about online safety, cyberbullying and exploitation. The auction, from Oct. 1 to Oct. 14, coincides with World Mental Health Day on Oct. 10 and the 11th anniversary of Todd’s death at the age of 15.

Ghost Town

Celebrate IoCo's past at the annual Ghost Town Day festival from noon to 4 p.m. The townsite, located at the corner of Ioco Road and 1st Avenue, will be open for guests to wander the area and learn about its history. Indigenous Land

Hear from Leigh Joseph, an ethnobotanist, researcher and community activist, in a Zoom presentation by the Coquitlam Public Library. Joseph will be discussing the role of plants in her own cultural reconnection and how she shares her love of plants and the land with wider audiences through her film, book and company. She will also speak to the significance of native plants and their role in Indigenous culture both past and future.

Murder on the Train

Writing a Memoir

Sport the colour purple today in recognition of brain awareness caused by interpersonal violence. The Royal Purple — including the BC Tri-Cities Royal Purple (formerly the Port Coquitlam Royal Purple) — has partnered with brain injury associations across Canada to deliver care bags to shelters.

PoCo Test Alert

Port Coquitlam will issue a city-wide test alert through its emergency notification system, Alertable, at 10:25 a.m. to coincide with the ShakeOut BC earthquake drill. The alarm, which will go off following the drill, is the first public test of the city system and is designed to ensure residents have access to local information about emergencies. Residents are asked not to call 9-1-1 during the test.
