Fresh Food

Meet the Metro Vancouver vendors at this week’s Port Coquitlam Farmers Market, which runs at the Terry Fox Hometown Square behind the Port Coquitlam Community Centre (2150 Wilson Ave.) from 3 to 7 p.m. Bring your shopping bags and talk with the food producers and artisans while enjoying the music.

Youth Art

Youth ages 13 to 18 can join artists and collaborators Sandeep Johal and Sara Khan for a two-session art-making workshop at the Evergreen Cultural Centre in Coquitlam (1205 Pinetree Way). The session from 4 to 6 p.m. will see participants’ artwork on display at the Coquitlam Public Library in October. Materials and snacks will be provided for the youth participants. The event is free; however, registration is required.

Remembering Riverview

Meet the artists behind the new Coquitlam Heritage exhibit Riverview: An Artist’s Point of View, which opens at Mackin House in Coquitlam (1116 Brunette Ave.) with a reception from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Nadine Flagel, Haley Perry and Lolu Oyedele, along with the facility’s Markus Fahrner and Naomi Fong, are part of the event that broaches themes of mental health and physical separation by the former patients of the century-old Coquitlam institution. The event is free and suitable for all ages.

Red Buffalo Stories

Join Indigenous storyteller Red Buffalo Nova Weipert for a presentation at 7 p.m. at the Port Moody Public Library (100 Newport Dr.). Weipert uses hoops, film and storytelling to share their knowledge, teachings and stories and to explore the intersectionality of their identities, touching on reconciliation, spirituality, the 7 Grandfather Teachings and the Anishinaabe Creation Story.
