Sidney/North Saanich RCMP located the suspects soon after the report of a break-and-enter in progress.

Police say a call from a community member was instrumental in the arrest of youths suspected of breaking into Sidney Elementary School.

Sidney/North Saanich RCMP located the suspects soon after the report of a break-and-enter in progress about 7 p.m. on Dec. 16, based on detailed descriptions provided by the caller.

They were told that a group of youths had broken into the school then left through a smashed door.

Officers found the glass in the front door had been broken, along with two other door windows, and that fire extinguishers had been set off inside the school.

“This is a wonderful example of the public and police working in partnership in order to solve and prevent crime,” said Const. Tim Cosgrove. “In this case, a citizen called police when they saw something that didn’t seem right in their neighbourhood.

“Sidney/North Saanich RCMP would like to remind people that if they see something suspicious call us.”
