Nanaimo RCMP are investigating after a lone man broke into The Bay in Woodgrove Centre and made off with thousands of dollars in jewelry.

Just after midnight on Tuesday, an alarm was activated to the doors facing Aulds Road. When officers arrived they found a door pried and smashed open. Inside the store, six jewelry display cases had been smashed open and their contents taken. The cases held a variety of rings, earrings and necklaces.

Surveillance video obtained by investigators showed a male wearing a grey hoodie, light-coloured sneakers and carrying a pry bar entering then leaving just  four minutes later. Officers spoke to neighbours and learned a green Nissan Quest van was seen earlier near the mall. “The van is only a vehicle of interest at this point. If anyone saw it or its occupants near the mall earlier in the evening, we would like to hear from them,” said media spokesman Const. Gary O’Brien.

If anyone has information on this theft , please call the Nanaimo RCMP at 250-754-2345 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477(TIPS). You can also go online at www.nanaimocrimestoppers.com.
