Two motorists found driving at more than twice the limit on Beach Drive over the weekend had their vehicles impounded for seven days and were handed $483 speeding tickets.

A 28-year-old male driver was recorded by Oak Bay police travelling north at 107 km/h in a 40 km/h zone on Friday night on Beach Drive at around 9 p.m., police said Monday.

Another driver was clocked speeding north on Beach Drive just 24 hours later at 107 km/h, also in a 40 km/h zone.

“In a moment of déjà vu … a traffic stop was conducted and the 52-year-old male driver was issued a violation ticket for excessive speed,” police said, adding that the vehicle was also impounded for seven days.

Oak Bay police also reported a case of speeding on Cedar Hill Cross Road on Friday night.

The 27-year-old male driver was driving with a novice licence at 81 km/h in a 50 km/h zone. He was stopped, fined a total of $305, and issued a 12-hour driving prohibition.

Police said that the man had also been consuming alcohol.
