Memorial service for Bob the elk set for Sunday afternoon in Youbou

Believed be about 14 years old when he died, Bob was a familiar sight in Youbou, where he lived for many years

A memorial service for Bob, a popular Roosevelt elk that died after being hit by a car, is set for Sunday at the Youbou Little League Park.

Everyone will have a chance to share stories about Bob, a favourite among local residents and visitors, said Matt Baird, one of the event organizers.

From there, the event will move up Youbou Road, where Bob died last month, to view a memorial placed in his honour.

All are welcome to then gather at the Youbou Bar and Grill, Baird said.

Bob is believed to have been about 14 years old when he died. He was a familiar sight in the small community, where he lived for many years.

He would mooch for food at area homes and lounge in the grass around houses.

The memorial starts at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
