A man who allegedly damaged several vehicles in Oak Bay in a theft and vandalism spree that extended to Victoria has been taken into custody by Victoria police, Oak Bay police said Wednesday.

The man is facing charges of mischief to property under $5,000.

On Feb. 1 between 6:50 a.m. and 7:30 a.m. a man attempted to enter several vehicles in the 2200-block of Florence Street and the 3500-block of Estevan Avenue.

Police said he used a long skateboard to smash the headlights and taillights on four vehicles, and entered two others to take small amounts of loose change.

Victoria police received reports of several related incidents in the early hours of Feb. 1.

VicPD said dozens of vehicles were vandalized — some with keyed damage and others with smashed lights and windows — along Gladstone and Stanley avenues in Fernwood and Chestnut and Amphion streets in the Jubilee neighbourhood.

At the time, police described the suspect as in his 20s with a slim build and carrying a long skateboard.
