A 23-year-old Saanich man has been arrested in connection with a break-in at an Uptown clothing and footwear store early Sunday.

Sgt. Damien Kowalewich of Saanich police said in a statement that an Uptown security guard reported seeing a man smash a window at Urban Trail, enter the store and select a number of items before fleeing on foot.

A police officer searching the area spotted a man hiding in the bushes near the Galloping Goose trail near Ravine Way, Kowalewich said.

The man “was taken into custody with the assistance of SPD officers who happened to be conducting an impaired driving Counterattack [campaign] nearby,” he said.

Police said clothing and items worth more than $5,000 were recovered.

A 23-year-old Saanich man has been charged with break and enter and is expected to appear in court in the near future, police said.
