Bus drivers and other transit workers in Campbell River and the Comox Valley have rejected the latest offer from their employer, saying it didn’t adequately address wage gaps, overtime and scheduling issues.

Eighty-six per cent of workers with Unifor Local 114 turned down the offer by Pacific Western Transportation, which is contracted by B.C. Transit to provide bus service in the two regions, the union said in a statement.

Union members, who have been in a legal strike position since Nov. 19, are seeking comparable compensation to that in similar-sized transit systems in B.C.

The two transit systems have been experiencing driver shortages this year that caused service disruptions in June and September.
