A flurry of donations on Sunday took this year’s Times Colonist Christmas Fund total to $66,372.82, helping to make Christmas better for more people on Vancouver Island.

By midnight Sunday night, 110 donations had been received through our CanadaHelps web portal.

Every donation, no matter how small, will make a difference. Some of the larger ones over the weekend included five for $1,000, one for $1,700, one for $2,000 and one for $3,500.11.

The fund, run by the Times Colonist Christmas Fund Society, is designed to help you help others. Imagine the joy that you can bring to a family — or the way the face of a small child will light up at the sight of a special something on Christmas Day.

Our 2023 campaign has a goal of $1 million.

We strive to ensure that the money you donate is put to work in the most efficient way possible. The Times Colonist covers most of administration costs associated with the fund, and we work with community partners that are dedicated to helping everyone who could use a hand.

The money helps provide food for the hungry, toys for children, and comfort for all.

This year, the need is high, and so far our readers are coming through. Together, we can make this a Christmas to remember.

Thank you.

Dave Obee is editor and publisher of the Times Colonist.
