You did it!

For only the third time in its 66-year history, the Times Colonist Christmas Fund has hit half a million dollars.

Thanks to this newspaper’s readers, the total reached $537,750 on Thursday.

That’s still well behind the amount raised in each of the past two years, but the money continues to come in, in amounts small and large, with just over a week to go before Christmas.

That’s good, because inflation means more and more of your neighbours are struggling to stay afloat this season, their income not keeping up to the cost of living.

That’s why the Christmas Fund made food security a priority this year, funnelling donations to dozens of Vancouver Island non-profits to help ensure that food reaches as many people as possible. That’s in addition to providing those in need with toys under the tree and other help.

The Times Colonist is absorbing most of the costs associated with running the Christmas Fund.
