Developing World Connections has sent almost 2,000 volunteers to work on sustainable projects in 13 developing nations around the world since 2005. This non-profit has helped improve the lives of some of the world's most impoverished people by providing them with community centres, housing or schools. Volunteers can be any age, but the organization currently seeks youth volunteers to join its summer program. If you are between the ages of 16 and 29, you can make a difference in the lives of people who don't have the options that you do. You also get to make friends and experience a new culture.
You and your team will spend two to four weeks working alongside local people on a sustainable project selected by the host community. Previous training or special skills are not necessary to participate, so anyone is welcome to join. Participants are required to contribute financially; fundraising is encouraged and all costs are tax deductible. Trips take place between May and August; sign up early to give yourself lots of time to prepare and fundraise.
