A naughty local sheep has been returned to captivity after a daring break for freedom Thursday afternoon (Dec. 13).

Animal Control Services dropped off the Mouflon-and-Blackbelly cross after wrangling him yesterday in Moore's Meadow.

Alex Schare, manager of Animal Centre Services for the Prince George SPCA, says it has been an interesting 24 hours since the sheep was first sighted.

"From what I hear, he was first spotted on Foothills (Boulevard), and then migrated over to Moore's Meadow, and from what I understand, played quite a game of catch-me-if-you-can," he says.

"People were really confused, they were calling animal control saying, 'I think I saw a bighorn sheep on Foothills?'"

Schare says that at first SPCA staff thought the sheep was a goat, and named it Vincent Van Goat. They put his photograph on Facebook and his long-suffering family called to claim their friend, revealing his name to be Waldo, as in, Where's Waldo?

The family is expected to pick up their sheep friend later today. Until then, he's "enjoying some hay and 'me time'" in the SPCA livestock pen.

Schare says that Waldo has been a "very nice, very calm, very polite" guest, but that "if you gave him another chance, he would go for another escape."

He adds they wish Waldo all the best, but hopes they don't see him again anytime soon.
