The University of Victoria Vikes women's soccer team remained undefeated in Canada West play Saturday while the UVic men continued to struggle on the road.

The UVic women improved to three wins and a tie with a 3-0 victory over the Calgary Dinos. The Vikes have now posted three consecutive shutouts.

For Bruce Wilson and his UVic men's team, an early own goal led Calgary to a 3-1 win. The Vikes, defending Canadian Interuniversity Sport champions, now have a 2-3 record and all three losses have come on the road.

"I thought that we had a very good first half,'' said UVic women's coach Tracy David. "The Dinos regrouped in the second half and they made it difficult for us.''

In the first half, within a span of seven minutes, the Vikes hit two goal posts and two cross bars.

"We had a solid performance from everyone,'' said David. "Our centreback Bijou Leavins was very good for us.''

Jackie Harrison opened the scoring for UVic in the 24th minute and three minutes later Emma Greig notched her seventh marker of the season. Lindsay Hoetzel completed the scoring in the second half while veteran Steph Parker posted the shutout.

Calgary now has a record of no wins, three losses and two ties.

In the men's game, the Vikes were down 2-0 at half-time.

"We didn't start well,'' said Wilson. "We had an early back pass and it went under the foot of goalkeeper Elliot Mitrou. We did keep battling and scored in the second half.

We were outplaying them and pushing forward for the tying goal but then Calgary put in the third.''

Dominic Russo and Kieran Hay scored for Calgary while Cam Stokes countered for UVic. Calgary now has one win, three losses and a tie.

Both UVic teams travel to Lethbridge today for games against the Pronghorns.
