The Victoria Highlanders got second-half goals from Goteh Ntignee and Shun Takano on their way to a 2-1 United Soccer League 2 victory over Calgary Foothills FC on Sunday afternoon at Centennial Stadium.

It was the first victory over the Foothills in Highlanders franchise history and made up for Friday’s 4-1 loss to Calgary which began the weekend set at Centennial Stadium.

“You can fall down, but you have to get back up and show that you can come together as a team,” said Highlanders head coach Thomas Niendorf.

“We made some adjustments to our game and we knew the things we needed to take care of to find our game. I’m tremendously proud of the boys to keep our season going with an opportunity to challenge for a playoff spot.”

Ntignee, 17, leads the Highlanders in scoring with four goals.

The Highlanders moved to 5-2-1 while the defending league champion Foothills fell to 5-3-2.

The Highlanders are on the road Friday in Portland to take on Timbers U-23. The Highlanders are back home on July 5 for their final home game of the regular season at Centennial Stadium against Vancouver TSS FC Rovers.
