UVic scoring spree proves too much for UNBC in Canada West men's hoops

The University of Victoria Vikes overwhelmed the University of Northern B.C. Timberwolves 129-89 in Canada West men’s basketball play at CARSA Gymnasium on Saturday night.

Diego Maffia led UVic with 34 points with Elias Ralph adding 23 and Renoldo Robinson 21 for the U Sports nationally No. 2-ranked Vikes (12-2). The Timberwolves fell to 5-7.

The Vikes, 98-76 victors over UNBC late Friday night with Robinson hitting for 27 points and Maffia 22, swept the two-game regular-season set.

In the Canada West women’s game on Saturday, the Timberwolves defeated UVic 91-79 despite UVic star Ashlyn Day’s 35 points. The teams split the weekend set as UVic went to 5-9 in conference and UNBC to 4-8. — Times Colonist
