'Rocks earn home floor for first round

A weekend sweep of the Nanaimo Timbermen combined with New Westminster's stunning loss to Maple Ridge on Sunday have presented the Victoria Shamrocks with home-floor advantage in Round 1 of the Western Lacrosse Association playoffs.

The Shamrocks will play host to the Coquitlam Adanacs in Game 1 of the best-of-seven semifinals on Saturday at 7: 45 p.m. at Bear Mountain Arena.

Game 2 will go Aug. 8, in Coquitlam, with Game 3 returning to Victoria on Aug. 10, followed by the fourth matchup back on the road on Aug. 12.

If Games 5, 6 and 7 are required they are set for Aug. 14, 15 and 19 respectively, with Victoria hosting the fifth and seventh outings. All games are at 7: 45 p.m.

Tickets went on sale Monday and can be purchased at victoriashamrocks.com or by calling 250-478ROCK or at the gate on Saturday.

Prices are set at $17.50 for adults; $15 for seniors (65 and over) and youth (13-19 years); $8.50 for kids (5-12 years); and free to 4 and under.

The Shamrocks secured second place overall with a record of 11-7, just behind regular-season champs the Langley Thunder (12-6) and ahead of Coquitlam (10-8). Burnaby finished fourth at 9-7-2.

Coquitlam won the season series against the Shamrocks with a 2-1 record, winning at home by 9-8 and 10-9 scores after Victoria handled the Adanacs 10-6 in the first matchup at Bear Mountain Arena.

Langley, the defending champion, opens its series at home Wednesday against Burnaby.
