PFC wary as it looks ahead to CPL road match today at Clarke Stadium against FC Edmonton

Pacific FC head coach Pa-Modou Kah made an observation of the vagaries of soccer and how an unappealing approach can frustrate better teams.

“Honduras did not want to attack,” Kah said of Canada’s 1-1 World Cup qualifying draw Thursday.

Attacking has not been an issue for PFC, the highest scoring team in the Canadian Premier League.

PFC (8-3-4) takes on FC Edmonton (3-7-5) today in Alberta in a match-up of provincial capitals.

“We can’t take the game for granted,” said Kah, who earned 10 caps for Norway as a player.

“We drew 2-2 with FC Edmonton last time we played them in a game we should have won. Edmonton is a team in transition and trying to establish an identity.”

Kah said star player Marco Bustos, who has missed three games, is “day-to-day and we will wait for the right moment.”

Midfielder Alessandro Hojabrpour has stepped up in Bustos’ absence and provided a stellar presence in the key transition role. “Allessandro has been great and taken on the responsibility,” said Kah. “He knows he has got to push himself and get better every day.”

Meanwhile, backup goalkeeper Nolan Wirth of Comox has been granted a leave of absence from the team. Veteran Mark Village will backup starter Callum Irving.

CORNER KICKS: FC Edmonton will celebrate “Girls in Soccer” during today’s game, including Canada’s Tokyo Olympic gold medal.
