It was only 10 games, but Pa-Modou Kah made them count.

Pacific FC management saw enough over the abbreviated 2020 Canadian Premier League soccer season — played in a bubble in Charlottetown, P.E.I. — to offer head coach Kah a contract extension. PFC made the playoff round in Charlottetown and placed fourth under Kah.

Details of the extension were not divulged. CPL teams must come under a $1.2-million salary cap for 2021 that includes players and coaching staff.

Kah, 40, was a widely travelled pro. He was capped 10 times for Norway and has become known as a players’ coach.

Also extended was assistant coach James Merriman, the 35-year-old Nanaimo native who spent seven years coaching in the Vancouver Whitecaps MLS development system, and whose knowledge of young B.C. talent has been crucial in building PFC’s roster. Merriman has been with PFC since the inaugural season in 2019. Kah will be entering his second season with the franchise.

“These are two of the most talented coaches in this country, and their ambition to build a winning organization, along with their commitment to the community, falls directly in line with the club’s vision,” Pacific FC general manager and CEO Rob Friend said in a statement.

The third season of the CPL begins on May 22.
