The defending B.C.-champion Oak Bay Bays made quick work of the Reynolds Roadrunners to capture the Lower Island triple-A senior boy's volleyball title on Wednesday night at Claremont.

Up just 4-3 in the first set, the Bays used nine straight points from the service line from Leon Young to pull away for a 25-12 win and followed it up with 25-18 and 25-19 victories to sweep the city crown.

The two teams, as well as Belmont and Claremont, will all travel to Courtenay Nov. 16 for the Island championships.

"We're happy with it," said Bays coach Al Carmichael. "We were trying to fight off complacency and making sure we made good plays."

Young was a force as he replaced regular power-hitter Lars Bornemann, who is nursing a nagging injury.

Oak Bay dumped Claremont 25-12, 25-23 in the semifinals, while Reynolds upset Belmont 25-19, 22-25, 15-13 in a tight three-set match in the other.

Belmont managed to hang on for a 25-20, 25-20, 18-25, 25-19 win over Claremont in the bronze matchup.

In double-A play, the Pacific Christian School Pacers claimed a Lower Island title on home court defeating the Lambrick Park Lions 25-12, 25-8, 25-21 to claim their eighth city title in the last 11 years.

Both teams, as well as Parkland, will travel to Islands.

"It's nice to have that berth tucked away," said Pacers coach Neil Ryan, whose team is ranked fourth in B.C. and is looking to lead his charges to provincials for a 16th time.

"Our guys have been awesome," said Lions coach Wesley Lefsrud. "We just keep doing what we've been doing all year, playing strong volleyball."

The Pacers defeated Esquimalt 25-10, 25-13 in the semifinals, while the Lions beat Parkland 25-18, 25-15.

Parkland came back to defeat Esquimalt 25-17, 2520, 25-22 in a close bronze-medal game as three of four qualified for Islands.

The double-A and triple-A provincials are in Kelowna Nov. 28-Dec. 1.
