There will be 14 teams gunning for Oak Bay this weekend at the Camosun Chargers Senior Boys' Volleyball Fall Classic.

The 15-team tournament starts today at the Pacific Institute for Sport Excellence and Pacific Christian School. Pacific Christian will only be used for today's games at 4: 30, 5: 40 and 7 p.m. Today's opening games at PISE are at 4, 5: 10, 6: 20, 7: 30 and 8: 40 p.m.

Oak Bay, the defending B.C. triple-A champion, is led by provincial most valuable player Lars Boreman and star libero Elion Wong.

"Many of the Island teams have improved from last year including Pacific Christian [led by provincial team member Cam Fennema], Ballenas [Parksville], Reynolds, Belmont, Dover Bay [Nanaimo] and G.P. Vanier [Courtenay],'' said Chargers' men's coach Charles Parkinson in a release. "This not only adds fuel to the North-South rivalry, but it will also make the competition for the provincial championship berths extremely challenging.''

The other teams entered are Seaquam from Delta, Port Coquitlam's Riverside, Nanaimo's Wellington, Stelly's, Lambrick Park, Surrey's Lord Tweedsmuir, Claremont and Parkland.

Lambrick Park won last year's championship, defeating Pacific Christian in a hard-fought final.

The top 10 teams will advance to Saturday's single-knockout playoffs. The championship round starts at 2 p.m., with the semifinals scheduled for 5: 30 p.m. The final goes at 6: 40 p.m.
