New all-girls minor hockey association hopes to Reign supreme

Greater Victoria’s newest minor hockey association now has a name and logo for its teams.

Greater Victoria’s newest minor hockey association now has a name and logo for its teams.

The Capital Region Female Minor Hockey Association announced Friday its rep teams will be named the Victoria Reign and sport a stylized logo of a “silhouette of a female hero sporting a crown and whose pose displays confidence as she commands attention while reigning over her subject.”

The jersey colours will be light blue, with navy blue, red and white and a bit of grey.

The logo and jersey colours, developed in conjunction with Ken Jones of Jones Creative, were designed to “define the strength and tenacity of female hockey players in Victoria.”

The CRFMHA formed last spring and its teams will begin play this fall. Its purpose was to bring all female players who didn’t want to play co-ed hockey, under one umbrella. There are also eight all-female hockey associations on the Lower Mainland.

“There’s never a guarantee a girl can play on a girls’ team in current associations. This new association will go a long way toward guaranteeing that,” Ian Fleetwood, president of the CRFMHA, told the Times Colonist recently.

“You can’t now reliably play on a girls’ team, and then we lose those players for good. I believe this will lead to an expansion in programming for girls’ hockey in Greater Victoria because female initiatives will be the priority.”
