Island teams advance to B.C. high school basketball semifinals

Spectrum, making it first appearance since the 1990s, has swept into the semifinals of the 2024 B.C. Quad-A boys high school basketball championships.

The second-seed Thunder defeated the Burnaby South Rebels 86-66 in the quarter-finals Wednesday at the Langley Events Centre and will meet the third-seed West Vancouver Highlanders tonight in the semifinals.

The top-seed Oak Bay Bays were playing seventh-seed Yale of Abbotsford in a late-finishing quarter-final on Wednesday night.

The Dover Bay Dolphins advanced to the provincial Triple-A semifinals after dispatching St. Thomas More of Burnaby 89-65 in the quarter-finals Wednesday at the LEC.

The Dolphins will play the Lord Byng Grey Ghosts of Vancouver in the semifinals tonight. The Grey Ghosts defeated the Mark Isfeld Ice of Courtenay 78-53 in the quarter-finals to dash hopes of an all-Island semifinal.

Fourth-seed Brentwood College was looking to advance to the Double-A semifinals and was playing the Westsyde Whundas of Kamloops in a late-finishing quarter-final game Wednesday. The Lambrick Park Lions fell 83-71 to the Pacific Academy Breakers and John Barsby Bulldogs of Nanaimo 108-75 to Collingwood of West Vancouver in the Double-A quarter-finals.
