Colwood pro up for B.C. golf award

Head pro Jason Giesbrecht from Royal Colwood Golf Club has been nominated for two awards by the PGA of B.C.

Giesbrecht is in the running for the golf professional of the year and the professional development award. Others in the running for professional of the year are Randall Smith from the Vancouver Golf Club, Jonathan Kadin from Gallagher's Canyon Golf Club in Kelowna and Jeff Wiggins from Mountain View Golf Club in Whitehorse.

The other nominees for the professional development award are Tommy Dunn from Callaway Golf Canada, Chad Scott from the Harvest Golf Club in Kelowna and Mel Dies from the Fernie Golf and Country Club.

The other Islanders and Island facilities nominated for awards are: Bill Kelly from Glacier Greens Golf Club in Comox (teacher of the year), Robert Ratcliffe from Crown Isle Resort and Golf Community in Courtenay (coach of the year), Victoria Golf Club (golf shop of the year), Bruce MacDonald from Alberni Golf Club (leader of the year), Crown Isle (facility of the year) and Lance Barber from Long Beach Golf Course (apprentice of the year).

The winners will be announced Nov. 15 along with member of the year, Jim Gibson patron of the year, player of the year and club professional player of the year.
