Cascades rain on Vikes' parade

The University of Victoria Vikes men’s soccer team gave up a late goal in the second half on a penalty kick and had to settle for a 2-2 Canada West tie with the Fraser Valley Cascades.

The University of Victoria Vikes men’s soccer team gave up a late goal in the second half on a penalty kick and had to settle for a 2-2 Canada West tie with the Fraser Valley Cascades.

The Vikes fell behind

1-0 early in the game but then responded with goals by Craig Taylor and Gavin Barrett for a 2-1 lead at the half. Sasa Plavsic scored the tying goal in the 83rd minute for Fraser Valley. The Vikes also gave up an early own goal.

The Vikes now have a

4-3-2 record for 14 points while Fraser Valley is

1-2-4. The Cascades have had three consecutive ties.

The Vikes are back in action Sunday at Centennial Stadium against Fraser Valley. Game time is 2:15 p.m.

The UVic women’s soccer team is on the road for games today (Saskatchewan) and Sunday (Regina).

After starting the Canada West season with a 1-1 tie against the Alberta Pandas, the Vikes have rolled to six straight wins and are ranked No. 5 by Canadian Interuniversity Sport.

The UVic women’s field hockey team plays the Calgary Dinos today and Sunday at the UVic Field Hockey Turf. Both games start at 11 a.m. The Vikes have a 2-2 record while Calgary is 0-4.
