Boudreau fades at Canadian Assistants

Edd Boudreau of Gorge Vale Golf Club has some work to do in today's final round of the PGA Assistants' Championship of Canada at the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge Golf Club.

Edd Boudreau of Gorge Vale Golf Club has some work to do in today's final round of the PGA Assistants' Championship of Canada at the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge Golf Club.

Boudreau started Tuesday's second round in a first-place tie with Dave Levesque (La Prairie Club de Golf), Jacob Patte (Oshawa) and Gary Hartford (Riverside Golf Club) after carding a 5-under opening round of 67.

However, Boudreau struggled a little on Tuesday and shot a 1-over 72, leaving him seven strokes behind leader and defending champion Mike Belbin of Royal Mayfair Golf Club in Edmonton.

"I had one bad, bad hole and it cost me a double bogey,'' said Boudreau. "My approach shot on that hole landed in a tree. Today, I just couldn't get the pace of the greens as I was short all day. I had lots of good chances on the back nine but I couldn't get the ball into the hole.

"This is a fantastic golf course but with the swirling winds and tough pin placements, we were doing a lot of guessing.

"I left a lot of shots on the course and now I have to rebound.''

Boudreau won the PGA Assistants' Championship of Canada in 2003.

Belbin was on fire with a with a sizzling 7-under 64 for a two-round total of 131 (11-under). He has a three-shot lead over Mark Strong from the Vancouver Golf Club, Bill Walsh of the Fairtree Golf Centre and Patte. Walsh carded a 66, while strong had a 67 and Patte a 68.

Axle Riley of Cordova Bay had rounds of 70 and 75 and is well off the pace.
