Bear Mountain Stadium takes Westhills name

Land developer Jim Hartshorne has added his Westhills name to another West Shore facility as Bear Mountain Stadium officially changes to Westhills Stadium.

Land developer Jim Hartshorne has added his Westhills name to another West Shore facility as Bear Mountain Stadium officially changes to Westhills Stadium.

A new sign is up at the facility, which is used by Rugby Canada, Westshore Rebels football and minor soccer and football clubs. It's next to Westhills Arena.

"We heard from Langford that there was an opportunity to acquire naming rights for the stadium, and we were very excited and interested in doing so," said Ryan McKenzie, manager of Westhills.

"We're big supporters of recreation and sports, activity and youth sports and part of what the city of Langford is trying to do with City Centre Park and the recreation corridor. We think of it as another great amenity for the community," McKenzie said.

"We've worked with them now on the arena and stadium, and we're working on a recreation centre as well that includes an aquatic facility."

That complex is in the planning stage, and the developer is hoping it becomes a centrepiece for the area.

Westhills Stadium has already been used in several advertisements regarding upcoming sports events, including the Americas Rugby Championship, set to begin Oct. 12.

"With the Rugby Canada events coming up next month, we're pretty excited about that involvement there as well," McKenzie said. He would not state the length of the term on the naming rights, suggesting only that the company hoped to have longterm involvement.
