The B.C. Sports Hall of Fame celebrated three more occasions as part of its Defining Moments series during the hall’s annual summit over the weekend in New Westminster.

Honoured this year were Terry Fox and the 1980 Marathon of Hope, the 1982 Vancouver Canucks’ run to the Stanley Cup final and “Towel Power,” and the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. They follow last year’s inaugural Defining Moments, which included the 1994 Victoria Commonwealth Games, the 1994 B.C. Lions Grey Cup championship and the Canucks’ run to the 1994 Stanley Cup final.

The series will annually highlight three important moments in B.C. sports history.

“The Marathon of Hope is not only a compelling event in British Columbia sport history, it has become an iconic and essential part of Canadiana,” said Tom Mayenknecht, chair of the B.C. Sports Hall of Fame.

“As storytellers committed to celebrating the athletes, coaches, builders, teams and pioneers who have become parts of the fabric of our culture and heritage, we’re thrilled to have the chance to recall these Defining Moments.”

All six of the first moments are celebrated in the new Defining Moments gallery at the B.C. Sports Hall of Fame in B.C. Place.
