“We firmly resist ageistic notions of what is possible as you age and we don’t try to limit opportunities or experiences by how many birthdays one has celebrated,” says Amber Reis, general manager at Tapestry at Victoria Harbour. “Our residents have the opportunity to participate in options that appeal to them; from hybrid belly-dancing classes, kayaking and hiking, to participating in writing and book clubs, as well as a singing group.”
In addition to organizing a cruise to Alaska later this year, residents are actively involved in planning and participating in group ventures that benefit the greater community.
“Residents are exceptionally community-minded, flexing their wellness muscle by giving to others to enrich broader society,” shares Reis. “They’ve raised more than $20,000 in donations for the Inter-Cultural Association of Greater Victoria to support displaced Ukrainian nationals. Currently, they’re leading a major fundraising effort to support a new BC Cancer – Victoria Integrated Care and Research Pavilion.”
