Website access will cost a little more on Sept. 1

Today, it costs $6.20 per month to subscribe to the website edition of the Times Colonist. On Sept. 1, that cost is going up to $9.99. Outraged? Don't be. Trust me, it's a fair price. "Biased!" you say. Of course. But it doesn't mean I'm wrong.

Outraged? Don't be. Trust me, it's a fair price.

"Biased!" you say. Of course. But it doesn't mean I'm wrong.

The truth is our price has been low for a long time, giving tens of thousands of people cheap access to the best, award-winning journalism on the Island. Heck, in the province. But it's time for an adjustment. A small, $3.79 adjustment. It's less than one of those expensive coffees everyone is talking about.

You probably have that much in your couch cushions.

Current subscribers are getting e-mailed notices about the rate change and to soften the blow, our excellent reader sales department is making them a deal. Here's what they are offering:

"In an effort to retain our loyal customers, we would like to extend to you a special rate of $62.00 + applicable taxes for a one year subscription. This is a limited time offer and must be claimed before August 29, 2013."

After that date, no more annual subscriptions will be available and the slightly higher monthly rates goes into effect. It's a chance for current subscribers to lock in the lower rate for a full year.

Current online subscribers can contact our readers sales department at 250-382-2255 or 1-800-663-6384 (within B.C.) to take advantage. E-mail is customerservice@timescolonist.com.

At any price, the website subscription is a good deal. The best deal, however, is still subscribing to the print edition for just $20 a month (slightly more up Island). It comes with six-day home delivery, unlimited access to the website and the E-edition.

Get details on all the offers HERE.

Of course, there are still 10 free articles available to you each 30 days, during which our Press+ popup window will occasionally ask if you'd like to subscribe.

You should do it. It's a good deal. You can trust me.
