Suspect arrested after security guard stabbed near Ladysmith

The guard was assaulted and stabbed Wednesday while checking on an open fire on private forestry land.

Ladysmith RCMP have arrested a suspect after a security guard was assaulted and stabbed Wednesday while checking on an open fire on private forestry land.

Police responded about noon after receiving a report about the fire in the area of Cameron and Timberland roads.

The victim was treated in hospital for non-life-threatening injuries and has since been released.

The suspect, a 66-year-old Nanaimo man, was arrested Thursday.

He was later released with a May 16 court date.
