Map created with a little help from our friends

One night about six weeks ago, I got a query from the city desk, wondering if we had an online resource for outdoor markets in the Capital Region. We did not, I responded, but we could create one.

One night about six weeks ago, I got a query from the city desk, wondering if we had an online resource for outdoor markets in the Capital Region.

We did not, I responded, but we could create one. It was Saturday night, what else did I have to do?

So Bryna Hallam sent me a quickly compiled list of markets and I created the first version of the map. There were 10 markets on it.

We posted the map and asked readers to send us anything that should be added. And you did.

Today, we have a very comprehensive map of 22 locations. It's a great resource:

It continued to grow until today, when an astute and helpful reader sent me information on the Chinatown Night Market.

The map has been shared numerous times and most recently was part of a story by Andrew Duffy about the economic impact of outdoor markets in the region.

It's a shining example of participatory journalism. Or, more simply put, it's a great example of us asking for help and you giving it.

We couldn't have done it without you.
