A friend and I were welcomed at Woodwynn Farms last week. Things were progressing satisfactorily at this critically important therapeutic program for the Island. We appear to have no other ongoing residential rehabilitation program for the economically disadvantaged in serious need of help for a fresh start in life.
In spite of the many difficulties they have encountered, it was a delight to see this small community coming together and thriving in an atmosphere of optimism and ambition.We shared supper with staff and participants; all was immaculate, and in this family setting, the sense of common purpose made it a time of shared contentment and pleasure.
As a retired teacher, I recognize that the creation of a sense of community with shared values is no mean achievement in so short a time. Congratulations to all involved, and good wishes for your future among us.
