Vimy Ridge pilgrims must register

I am going to Vimy Ridge this April to take part in the centennial commemoration of the taking of the ridge by the Canadian Army Corps in 1917. I hope that many other Canadians will, too.

I have learned through Veterans Affairs Canada that some restrictions have been placed on attendance.

To be admitted to the memorial park site on April 9, one will need to have registered with VAC, consented to your name being passed on to French security services and hold an issued e-ticket that you must present, along with a passport or other identification, for admittance.

The need for security in these days of random terrorist attacks in Europe is self-evident.

I hope this information might prevent disappointment. Registration must be done by Feb. 28 and can be done on the appropriate vac.gc.ca web page. I would suggest starting at canada.ca/Vimy-100, following prompts, looking for links and navigating to the proper page.
