Visitors look out over the river at Sooke Potholes Provincial Park. A letter-writer suggests that The Land Conservancy of B.C., which owns properties surrounding the park, should be exempt from property taxes in the same way the Capital Regional District is.

Given that The Land Conservancy of B.C. is a non-profit charitable trust, it seems incongruous that it should have to pay property taxes on properties that are in many ways parkland.

When we mention TLC properties abutting the Sooke Potholes Provincial Park, you can be quite certain that neither the province nor the Capital Regional District is paying property taxes for their parkland along the Sooke River. Perhaps the province and the municipalities in question should work together to provide TLC with a propertytax exemption.

We must all endeavour to provide TLC with the assistance and resources it needs so it can can continue its invaluable work throughout our province.
