Thank you to Speaker Darryl Plecas. His report indeed outrages this taxpayer. As a mental-health and addiction worker in a city facing the health crisis that Victoria has, I am sickened by what appears to be flagrant contempt for, and entitlement to, taxpayers’ dollars. There are people literally dying in our streets. Dying from lack of resources and funding for treatment and housing.

These outrageous expenditures show that a great deal more accountability is needed. In the age of detailed sales slips and computerized product explanations, it is unthinkable that there is a “slush” fund of thousands of dollars that can be reimbursed with the vaguest of explanations.

Do these people have any idea how much of a slush fund people on income assistance or disability have? None. There are no dollars left over at the end of the month. Shame on them for providing for themselves selfishly and extravagantly, when their position calls for service to the people of B.C.
