Regional police forces should be combined

Once again, the cost of policing in Greater Victoria raises its head. It is simple math that numerous small police forces cannot operate in a cost-effective manner.

It is ludicrous to see a force the size of Victoria buying and running 10 motorcycles, which is more than enough for the whole of Greater Victoria. Each of the municipal forces cannot possibly staff and fund all the specialist services required in modern-day policing. Amalgamation is the obvious solution.

The police service has to be run the same as any other business, providing the best possible service with accountability to the public for the money spent.

The government needs to step in and make what are sometimes tough decisions and put a stop to the waste of public funds by duplicating police services and have one force that can control the budget and manpower it is entrusted with.
