‘Progressives’ ignore consequences

If there is any characteristic that marks the opinions of those who march under the “progressive” banner, it is the readiness to use degrading clichés against imagined opponents. There are other considerations:

• “Fat cat developers must pay.” Those are the cats whose taxes have fattened the city treasury that would otherwise struggle to make payroll.

• “Bikes before cars” means less traffic, less business, empty buildings for the homeless. Hmmm.

The social-justice warriors don’t seem to comprehend the unintended consequences of economic climate change. Business cats don’t like cold, unfriendly climates and will relocate to where profits are more secure and appreciated.

If we get what some wish for, Victoria by whatever correct new name would hollow to the point you can cycle down Douglas or No Name Street with your eyes closed.

If we are not more careful, “progressively” freewheeling downhill to Sunshine Centre could get very bumpy at the bottom.
