People take the bus out of choice

Re: "The car is not the enemy," Sept. 18.

There are many flaws in the writer's perspective on transit. The writer tells us that commuters from Langford with wellpaid jobs who can afford homes and vehicles don't want to take buses with "rude teenagers and the great unwashed."

I'd be happy to spend an uncomfortable bus ride standing among teenagers (rude or not) and hordes of other commuters (the majority of who are freshly washed, or just carrying the sweat of the day's work) than discover that my seemingly "nice" co-worker had such a dark side and disrespect for humanity.

I don't judge anyone for sticking to the privilege of driving, but that doesn't give anyone the right to look down on the "masses." Chances are, some of those bus riders could well afford to drive, but choose not to, either to do their part to help this planet or because it's their preference.
