Not everybody should go to university

Shannon Corregan's column seems to perpetuate the assumption that everybody has or should go to university. I have witnessed this in many guises since coming to Canada in 1970.

I consider this to be a bad idea, particularly when I read of first-year university students needing remedial reading.

This is a clear indication that not everybody is university material and questions the acceptance criteria.

What is missing in our society is the advantages of having young, trained people for the trades. Can we not adopt something like the British trade-training apprenticeship programs?
