New light might avoid Sayward crashes

A letter-writer suggests that changes to the traffic flow are needed to reduce the number of rear-end crashes at the intersection of the Pat Bay Highway and Sayward Road.

Re: "Road rage incident follows Pat Bay snarl," Sept. 6.

Another rear-end accident close to Sayward.

Could this not be avoided by placing a traffic light at the Sayward Road right turnoff and with a large sign that says: "No right turn on red light"?

Most of these accidents happen because drivers misjudge the speed of the oncoming cars on the Pat Bay Highway and when turning right cannot accelerate fast enough to get up to the speed of the highway traffic.

Also, the problem is that these drivers never know what happens behind them, since they are not the car being hit - that is most likely the second or third car behind them.
