If this latest incident on the Malahat isn’t a wake-up call, then what is? Let’s look at this scenario:
• Traffic coming off at Swartz Bay isn’t all necessarily travelling to the downtown core, particularly truck/transport traffic.
• Wain Road in North Saanich could be widened, or at least upgraded, to accommodate vehicular traffic to the west side of the Peninsula.
• Purchase necessary water-bordering property. Build a fixed link to Mill Bay. Have bridge open 24/7 and video monitored.
• Less traffic unnecessarily headed into the Victoria area, only to bypass and head to points north.
One mishap on the Malahat and you’re in a parking lot.
End of story. Get it done. This is a win-win-win scenario.
