Tom Roemer is correct about the value of these trips, and Victoria Mayor Dean Fortin is an excellent person to represent the area. Unfortunately, the area he is representing is the Greater Victoria area, and the examples Roemer gives do not relate to the City of Victoria, but to the Capital Regional District. Camosun College, while one of the important educational institutions in the CRD, has no presence in the City of Victoria, other than to draw students and staff.
As the mayor of Victoria is, in fact, a good leader for the area, perhaps the funding for his trip should be covered by the CRD. This seems to be another example of the City of Victoria paying above its weight.
