Re: “Honouring Canadians on all fronts,” letter, June 4. The letter writer states they can’t remember the same coverage given to D-Day for the anniversary of the Italian Campaign. I, too, have wondered about that.

The letter writer states they can’t remember the same coverage given to D-Day for the anniversary of the Italian Campaign. I, too, have wondered about that. I had three uncles who were in that campaign.

One of those uncles, James Thompson, a radio signal man from Manitoba, was wounded and died a few days before the battle at Ortona in December 1943.

He is buried in the Moro River Canadian War Cemetery in Italy where so many other Canadian soldiers are buried.
