Hold China accountable for Tibet oppression

I would suggest there is a larger question of a tragic nature that must be asked: Why do we support the Chinese economy in view of that country's takeover of Tibet and the subjection of its citizens?

To date more than 51 Tibetans, many of them monks and nuns, have publicly set themselves on fire and most have died as a result in an agonizing attempt to bring the world's attention to their country's loss of identity and freedom. Meanwhile our political leaders make trips to China, enact trade agreements featuring photo-ops and express huge satisfaction that our economy prospers.

A further question: Why are we not informed in our national and local press about the Tibetan self-immolations? Of course Canadians would be appalled.

There might be demands that we cease supporting the Chinese economy until China is made to deal fairly with fellow human beings.
