Give Duncan land to square its shape

Given that the size and shape of Duncan is unusual, I think a much more practical solution to this uneven situation would be for the Municipality of North Cowichan to give up a part of the land and community on the north side of Duncan to sort of square off the town’s shape and size in order for the city to become a more viable entity.

Despite its unfortunate shape, Duncan has a positive image and a solid core as the anchor of the Cowichan Valley area. Also, with the rapid population growth in North Cowichan, this adjustment would hardly be missed by the municipality.

Mind you, if all this would have to go through another amalgamation process, I doubt the outcome would be any different from Saturday’s result. Sometimes I think a decree from the provincial authorities would make more sense.
