Re: "Clarity needed on curbing debt," Sept. 29.

I agree that our children and grandchildren will pay for the present and previous two B.C. governments' failure to manage debt.

The NDP government left the province $27 billion in debt. The B.C. Liberals are predicted to leave the province $47 billion in debt by the end of 2012.

While it is acceptable to run a deficit during extreme circumstances, the NDP ran a deficit for eight years of their term.

The B.C. Liberals aren't far behind, running a deficit for five years, so far, of their term. Both governments have done a poor of of managing the debt load for future generations.

As far as positively comparing B.C. provincial debt as a percentage of GDP, this is not unlike the homeowner who takes home equity loans on the increased value of his home, with no intention of repaying the loan. Let the kids inherit the debt.
