Display of politeness at Saanich Fair

I was blacksmithing at the Saanich Fair on the weekend, and finished up and was ready to go at about 6: 30 p.m. Monday.

So was everyone else. Stelly's Cross Road was bumper to bumper, and about three dozen cars were lined up in the field waiting to get out onto the road ahead of me. I was just amazed at how polite the people on the road were.

Almost all of them would make room for a car to exit the field, taking turns in a most civilized manner.

The thought occurred that these polite people were probably tired, a bit sunburned, may have had cranky kids in the car, and still, they allowed people to take their turns.

What a delightful revelation this was, as I have seen places where the standard attitude was that if you could not rudely force your way into the line, you could sit there till you died of old age.
