Diet advice is simple and easy to follow

With the New Year’s resolutions underway, I thought I would be a diet guru for a moment and share my advice, along with the “experts.

With the New Year’s resolutions underway, I thought I would be a diet guru for a moment and share my advice, along with the “experts.”

Several years ago, I read a couple of books by Michael Pollan and also glanced at many diet books, articles and fads over the years. So far, he has it right.

Three takeaways from his books:

1. Do not eat anything your grandmother would not recognize as food.

2. Eat food, not too much and mostly plants.

3. Shop on the three outside walls of the grocery store, where you will find the meat, eggs, milk, yogurt, veggies and fruit (this last one I am paraphrasing).

Enjoy and, yes, it is really that simple. It can be very economical just buying real food and preparing it oneself.

My final bit of advice is to enjoy a treat now and then. Whip up some good old-fashioned cake and cookies for eating and sharing.
