It’s interesting that of the 13 letters in Friday’s Times Colonist opposed to removing the John A. Macdonald statue, seven propose adding context to the statue to better reflect the complexity of history.

Wait a second — isn’t that exactly what the city has proposed? In Mayor Lisa Helps’ statement on Wednesday, she said that the city would look for a way to “recontextualize” the Macdonald statue at a different site. Perhaps we should all take a deep breath and wait to see what that plan is before making knee-jerk reactions.
